Steelman Transportation

Company Profile

Steelman Transportation has been in the long haul flatbed business since 1991. It was founded by Mr. Jerry Steelman. The 35 truck fleet was sold to the current owners, Jim Towery and Brett Sheets, in February of 1998. On April 1, 1999, we purchased the assets of Cornerstone Transportation of Mountain Grove, MO. This added 8 tractors and 13 flatbed trailers to the fleet, as well as adding several new customers. On January 2, 2004, we purchased the assets of Jack Warren Trucking of Springfield. This acquisition added 7 tractors and 31 trailers. The majority of these trailers were specialized RGNs, double drop stretches, and step deck stretches. In addition to the equipment we were able to add two prominent manufacturers to our shipper list. Both of these accounts offer oversized freight on a regular basis.

With the purchases noted above and with internal growth, Steelman now operates in excess of 80 tractors and 140 trailers. Our current freight mix consists of pipe and tubing in side kits, steel coils and flat sheets, stainless steel flat sheets and coils, steel shapes and beams, manufactured steel products, fiberglass and stainless steel tanks, large air conditioning systems, roofing shingles, vinyl siding, lumber and equipment

Our primary area of operation is the Midwest from I-35 east to the East coast, and from Ohio and Pennsylvania to the South. Approximately 10% of the trucks from the Springfield terminal go to the West coast each week on a rotating basis, but we do not consider ourselves a "West coast" operation.

Sincerely,

Jim Towery
